The natives of what is now Iowa were originally known as the Ioway people. I suppose the "y" just got dropped somewhere along the line, and we now pronounce the state "Iowah" instead of "Ioway".
One thing I learn each day during 2008. It may be very simple or very deep or somewhere in between.
